Washington, D.C. (May 20, 2009) – The Jerusalem Fund for Education and Community Development (The Fund) purchased medical equipment worth $107,783, which will be used to assist in the relief of civilian victims in the Gaza Strip. The United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA) in the Gaza Strip is the recipient organization of the Fund’s humanitarian assistance donation.

In January 2009, the Fund launched several fundraiser campaigns for Gaza in response to Israel’s military offensive against 1.5 million Palestinian civilians enclosed in the coastal territory.

“The Jerusalem Fund wants to thank its loyal donors who have been with us for many years and because of them we are able to carry out our humanitarian work. I want to specifically thank the Arab community in Houston, Texas for their pivotal effort in the purchase of the medical items,” said Jerusalem Fund Treasurer Dr. Eid Mustafa.

The Fund’s Humanitarian Link program fundraises and gives thousands of dollars annually in grants to hospitals, orphanages, clinics, schools, universities and civil society organizations in Palestine and in refugee camps in the diaspora to assist the Palestinian people. It also launches emergency aid campaigns to help Palestinians meet the challenges of life under occupation.
