Palestinian Assessment Of U.S. Diplomatic Efforts in the Middle East

On Thursday, 13 June 2002, Marwan Bishara and Diana Buttu will hold a press conference in the Murrow Room at the National Press Club at 9:30 a.m. Bishara and Buttu will address the latest round of diplomatic visits by Middle Eastern leaders to the White House and implications for the Palestinian-Israeli peace process.

Bishara is an author and professor of international relations. His most recent book,Palestine/Israel: Peace or Apartheid, was released in 2001.

Buttu is a legal advisor with the Negotiations Support Unit of the Negotiations Affairs Department of the Palestine Liberation Organization. Previously, Ms. Buttu served as legal counsel to the Canadian Department of Justice in Ottawa. Ms. Buttu is also an editor of the Palestine Yearbook of International Law and a member of the Ontario Bar.

Bishara and Buttu will each deliver 10 minutes of prepared remarks and will then take questions on all aspects of the Palestinian-Israeli crisis.
