"First Person: Recent
Palestinian Art"
by guest curator Mary
Evangelista
"Marbles
War No. 4, 2007"
by Hani Zurob
In the course of a research trip for a story on Israeli art, New York-based critic and curator Mary Evangelista was introduced to a number of outstanding young Palestinian artists. Evangelista's editor refused to include these artists in the magazine, but the experience ignited in Evangelista an ongoing interest in Palestinian contemporary art. This exhibition will offer a first-person account of one curator's venture into Palestinian contemporary art through a selection of painting, sculpture, mixed media, photography, and video works. Artists include Hani Zurob, Taysir Batniji, Said Abu Shakra, Farid Abu Shakra, Samir Salameh, Nabil Ananni, Ahmad Canann, and Shadi al Habib.
This event is free and open to the public. Registration is not required to attend.
The exhibit will be on display at the Jerusalem Fund Gallery from 30 January - 27 March 2009.
Gallery hours: M -
F, 9 a.m. - 5 p.m., or by
appointment.
