Yousef Munayyer, Executive Director
Prior to joining
the Jerusalem Fund, Yousef Munayyer served as a
Policy Analyst for the American-Arab
Anti-Discrimination Committee (ADC), the
nation’s largest Arab American membership
organization. His doctoral research focuses on
political conflict, interstate and domestic
conflict as well as the microfoundations of
ethnic cleansing and political repression. He
received his BA in Political Science and
History from the University of
Massachusetts-Amherst and MA in Government and
Politics from the University of
Maryland.

Hani Almadhoun, Grants &
Accounting Associate
Hani Almadhoun is originally
from Beit Lahia in the Northern Gaza Strip,
where his family now lives. After attending
Al-Azhar University for a year, Hani moved to
the United States in 2000 and continued his
studies, eventually moving to the Washington
D.C. area. After some time in D.C., Hani
decided to pursue a graduate degree at Brigham
Young University as a Masters of Public
Administration student in the Marriott School
of Business. He writes for a number of blogs on
issues of Palestinian culture and Arabic
music.
Samirah AlKassim, Program Manager
Formerly Director of the Film
Program at the American University in Cairo,
Samirah Alkassim is a filmmaker and film
scholar, with published articles about
experimental film/video in Egypt, and research
on Egyptian and Arab media, including Ramadan serials and
revolutionary graffiti. Her film
credits include experimental documentary “Far
From You” (1996) about Egyptian singer Umm
Kulthoum and memory, and a current unfinished
film about Palestinian artists in Jordan, among
various other experimental films and
installations. She has taught film
studies and production in Singapore, Cairo,
Jordan, and the San
Francisco Bay Area.
Tamara Kamel, Program
Assistant
Tamara Kamel is a graduate of
the George Washington University’s Elliott
School of International Affairs, where she
majored in International Affairs with a Minor
in History and a Concentration in the Middle
East. She spent part of her junior year abroad
at the American University of Beirut in Lebanon
and has traveled extensively throughout the
Arab world. Prior to joining the Jerusalem
Fund, Tamara worked with the Institute for
Palestine Studies, Amideast, and Amnesty
International. She is also pursuing her
Master’s degree in Middle East and Islamic
Studies at George Mason University.
Dagmar Painter, Curator
Dagmar Painter transformed an
ad hoc exhibit space into Washington D.C.’s
only full-time art gallery featuring the work
of Arab and Arab-American artists. She has
lived and worked in the Arab world for over 12
years and has traveled extensively in the
Islamic world for over 30 years.In Washington,
she previously established and ran the art
gallery of the Embassy of Tunisia. She also
directed Gallery Patina, a non-profit gallery
of the National Council on Aging, which was
featured on NBC’s Today Show. She is presently
an Advisory Review Panelist for the D.C.
Commission on the Arts and Humanities Grant
Panel. She has written and lectured extensively
in the U.S. and abroad on cross-cultural and
arts issues, at such venues as the Textile
Museum in Washington D.C. and Meridian House
International. She also taught seminars
on Middle Eastern textiles at the University of
Tunis and the Centre D’Etudes Maghrebines, as
well as classes at the National Museums of
Lagos, Nigeria and Bangkok, Thailand. Selected
publications include Arts in the Islamic
World, Ornament, Cairo Today,
Focus on Pakistan, The Herald,
India Today, Arts in Embassies, A
Practical Guide to Cairo and Savior:
Tunis.
