Join us for a screening of short films from the “It’s Not Just Documentaries Project”  organized by the Community Media Center of Gaza. Each film addresses a particular aspect of the suffering among civilians and the violations of their rights during and after the 2014 Israeli aggression in Gaza, which the IDF named “Operation Protective Edge.”
Each film concludes with a reminder of these staggering statistics from this latest assault:2,216 people killed; 31,974 homes damaged; 250,918 people displaced due to the destruction of their homes.
The screening will be followed by a pre-recorded (and subtitled) Skyped interview with three of the featured filmmakers, Zuheir Al-Belbeisi, Yassir Murtaja, and Muhammed Nayef, conducted by Samirah Alkassim and Zeina Azzam.

The Films

Memory of Homes (dir. Khalil Al-Mozian, 23 min)
This film focuses on the testimonies and memories by survivors in two families about what they endured during the 2014 war in Gaza, from the northern town of Beit Hanoun to the southern town of Khuzaa.

Honorable Judge (dir. Muhammed Nayef, 14 min)
Honorable Judge presents the story of one woman, a mother and a civilian, who lost most of her family members in one day during the 51-day assault in 2014. The film focuses on how she is coping now and highlights how her story is but one among many other examples of the deadly results on the largely civilian population of Gaza from the war.

The White Flag  (dir. Zuheir Al-Belbeisi, 16 min)
Survivors across the spectrum of class and professional fields in Gaza recount their experiences being shot at, bombed, and targeted despite carrying white flags in the open air. Every testimony recalls losing loved ones and having to leave them behind while being continuously shot at while carrying a white flag.
Al Wafaa (dir. Yassir Murtaja, 17 min)
Al Wafaa is the sole hospital in the Gaza Strip that serves the needs of the disabled. This is their story, as recounted by staff and patients, of their experience being shelled and bombed by the IDF during the war, as well as their experience being transferred to and working in another medical facility while being attacked.
